    W7 only booting with DVD

I did not know where to post it, but since I guess the problem is related to the setup and installation process I'll leave it here, feel free to move the thread though.

I downloaded W7 from DigitalRiver, made a bootable .iso, burned it and started the setup. I then formatted C: where Vista was located and had W7 installed onto C:.
It works perfectly with the DVD inserted, but whenever I try to boot without the DVD the Bios says something like:

    file:/windows/system32/winload.exe

    status: 0xc0000428

Info: windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file

What I did now was to go to the setup and open up a command line and then I did chdsk /R which said the partition was NTFS, could not be locked and that it was read only.
Then I did ScanOs which gave me 0 installations found. Afterwards FixMbr and FixBoot which were "completed successfully" and last but not least RebuildBCD which said 0 was fixed but it was again completed successfully.

Long story short, nothing has changed. Still the same error.

Plus: After that message in the bios I can press either esc or enter. Enter will then get me another screen where I can choose the OS I'd like to boot and it only says Windows Vista there but that selection takes me back to the initial "digital signature blabla" screen.

So .... is there still a little part of Vista left somewhere that messes up the boot process or what's up?

Did you clean install or upgrade?

You have a couple of options. You can work on this OS, you can re-install. Im betting that the re-install would be less painful and quicker. You have the dvd from DR (just to make sure burn a nother one and try with this os)

yeah I feel your pain. clean installs a re a PITA, but sometimes you gotta.

Let us know if we can help

So... you would not believe what it took to get this OS running ; ) First I could not download it since it always stopped at 49%. Then it took some unusual measures to get the 64bit setup files extracted under a 32bit Vista.
Next thing I did (after the whole digital siganture thing) was to install Vista again, get DiskWipe and format C:.
Somehow I managed to cancel to operation (don't ask my why I did it, blackout or something) and my hard disk was not accessible anymore. So I formatted my Linux hard disk (no Vista remnants here right) but now guess what: The setup halted at "windows files are being expanded". Great.
So, back to Vista, where I then burned another ISO. I then unplugged the hard disk I could not access (you never know ...) and installed Windows 7 onto the old Linux hard disk and, even if it sounds more or less impossible, everything works.

I should've listened to you first with the whole burn it again thing ; ) thanks anyway. It's probably all my fault and not Microsofts since they actually gave me a refund although I can't even remember asking. So now I've got a great W7 for free.

    Enjoy!
