Can't install Win 7 from USB and Win 7 isn't opening on my computer

Good afternoon

A few days ago my Acer aspire laptop computer began running very, very slowly. I began getting an I/O error 0xc0000185.

However, over the next couple of days things that happened were consistent with a virus. It seemed like the virus would close doors behind me. For example, if I opened Firefox I could never open it again.

I have the original 0EM Windows 7 disk which does not allow me to do an upgrade (repair installation) - only a clean install.

Following the guidance published by Sean Brink on Feb 2, 2009:
Repair Install

I proceeded to create a bootable USB drive by downloading the Windows 7 SP1 Media Refresh (SP1 U) ISO file and creating a bootable USB. This version would allow me to install an upgrade/repair installation.

However, the computer continued to disintegrate and soon it would no longer recognize the USB port.

Then, after a while, Windows would no longer open on the computer at all.

A window would come up asking if I wanted Windows to automatically repair Windows it would try to do that and then say that it couldn't. But it gave me the option of opening a command prompt.

From the command prompt I can open the Windows 7 USB setup.exe file and actually begin the installation process. However after a few screens I receive an error message that says that I started the computer from a Windows 7 disk (in this case my bootable USB) and that in order to install Windows 7 Windows needs to be started from the computer itself and the installation process closes.

But I can't launch Windows for my computer so I'm unable to fulfill their request.

The only option that I see now is a clean install from my original OEM Win 7 disk.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Tim Magee

I would suggest a clean install. Instructions are at the following link;

Clean Install Windows 7
(do not use your OEM disk; see image below section with the red arrow)

Since you have Acer then everything needed is here to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Be sure to delete all partitions during the booted install.

In the future you must fully disinfect an OS before attempting to repair it. Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot
