Install Win 7 from Vista Business question.

Hi,

I have been reading posts on installing Windows 7 and I wanted to post my question in a new thread and maybe this can answer some questions.

I am currently running Vista Business 64 bit OEM. I would like to install Windows 7 Home Premium UPGRADE on this machine and would not mind doing a complete reformat and clean install (backing up is not a problem).

I have read that I will have to install Windows 7 Professional OVER Windows Vista Business and cannot install Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade.

My questions are as follows:

Can I buy Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade, reformat my main partition where Vista Business is and clean install Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on the clean, reformatted drive? I read you can do full/clean installs with Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade.

If not, I also own a legal, paid for XP Pro disc. Would I be able to install Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade if I installed XP Pro? (I really do not want to go this route)

Thanks for your time.

Bob

Hi and welcome to sevenforums

question 1. Yes you can. We weren't sure untill RTM hit the wild but ppl have been doing exactly that ever since.

Word of advice do a back up (you wont need it) have your vista dvd and restore disks on hand.

95% of ppl have zero problems and the ones they have are minor. Just pays to be prepared

good luck mate

Vista Business to Win 7 Home Premium Upgrade
I am currently using Vista Business and want to install Windows 7 Home Premium. Upgrade Advisor does not show Home Premium as an upgrade but I don't need anything more than that and don't want to pay the full price for what is basically a downgrade. It doesn't make sense that I would have...

Upgrade Vista Business to Windows 7 Home Premium?
What are the "upgrade" rules? I don't need Windows 7 Professional but sometimes upgrades don't work if you are moving to a package lower on the feature tree. Please let me know if you have a definitive answer or give me a pointer to the correct place to ask.

The Vista thaw is finally coming to business
I have included this as I was amazed to find it just as 7 is on its way to the shops  While Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system is still only running on 10 per cent of business desktops in North America and Europe, there are signs a thaw could be coming. According to a...
