Unable to install windows on notebook.

I followed that verbatim and successfully created the partition but was still met with the same error message. (only one disk showed up in diskpart btw) should i assume this is the iso?

If this was a notebook that shipped with Win8 then have you already disabled Secure Boot and considered the UEFI, CSM or Legacy BIOS settings in BIOS setup? These are different for all mobos, but if you leave it UEFI it may still need to have CSM or Legacy BIOS enabled just to install Win7. Best to take some camera snaps or report back the exact choices offered for those settings.

If you want to avoid the UEFI crapware which just adds layers of complication and offers no real benefits then follow these steps to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7.

The error you're getting most often means the correct setting has not been applied yet in BIOS for Legacy or CSM, or that the HD has not been cleared if it was UEFI and now needs to have a normal MBR install. The two ways to clear the HD are as already given by Ignatz and shown in blue link with Diskpart, or just deleting partitions should be sufficient which I believe you said you already did. If that's the case and wiping with Diskpart Clean command doesn't help, then we need to take a look at your BIOS settings.

Yes that's the guide I was referring to. How should I proceed with installing the OS

What are the exact settings in BIOS for UEFI, CSM or Legacy? Either take camera snaps and attach back using paper clip, or type out the settings and their expanded choices.

When you attempted to install in Legacy mode, did it show UEFI devices to boot or did they disappear?

When you attempted to install in UEFI mode, were you booting the installer as a UEFI device?

Have you unplugged all other drives?

Secure boot is disabled, Load Legacy option rom is enabled, and boot list option is in legacy mode.

I Don't quite know what you mean by UEFI device, and i have no USB drives or anything connected if that is what you are referring to, i am simply booting from a dvd

If you have IRST then you most likely have an SSD caching chip, but we can't tell for sure because you didn't show the drive sizes on the disk information you typed out. Can you please post back a camera snap of the Where Do you Want to Install screen? Use paper clip icon in reply box to attach.

With IRST and the caching chip you'd want to follow Install Windows on System with MSATA and ISRT so afterwards you benefit from the faster caching speeds. We've also helped a few users install to a 32gb SSD chip for fastest performance of all but this requires having all of your User files on the hard drive which we can show you how to set up if you want that.

Since it sounds like you're turned off all UEFI choices to install to Legacy BIOS you will need to delete all partitions on the target hard drive to clear the GPT formatting so it will convert to an MBR disk for your install. You can delete the old and create/format your partitions using the drive options shown in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7.

Thanks, ill try that now, should i go ahead and install in IRST with the drivers on usb (like the link) or should i just install all my drivers after?
