    I have only installed Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional and I have never seen such a question when doing so.

    Did you see this selection or were you told by someone they seen it?
    I have never even head of someone seeing such a thing.

    Some activation cracks allow you to select the manufacturer's slic table you want your bent pc to pretend to have. Illegal so-called 'pre-activated' copies of Windows have the crack set to run automatically during install. In this situation you would be presented with the option to choose Dell, HP etc. Sounds to me like the OP is talking about piracy.

    Apart from the illegality, pirated Windows could have any number of malwares, keyloggers etc.

    Thank 3D Jed. I have never tried a illegal operating system or program so I didn't know.

    Yes that's a very handy piece of information. Like Layback, I've no first hand experience in installing pirated operating systems so I would never have known.

    I think 3d jed is correct here. I have seen this before, especially in windows 7 ultimate editions. There is no other legal way this question would be asked. The only thing I can think of that is somewhat possible is some manufacturers motherboards require their disk to be fed to windows for their sata drivers during install, and that would have a drop down list sometimes to choose the exact board you have. As the disk would have drivers for many versions of boards. But I have not seen that for years. I am thinking pirating is more likely here.

    @rajanpandit

    Please make sure you install a legal copy of windows, as already stated illegal copies come with a lot of surprises you can never be sure of.

    Are you sure it wasn't the dialogue that can open to connect to network, using Gigabyte adapter?
