New Install But have Minor Issues

Hello, I just finished a clean install of windows 7 and have run into 2 issues for now.

First, when i checked device manager i found 2 exclamation points. I clicked update drivers online and it didn't find anything.

EDIT: (image doesn't seem to be working. In the "Other devices" column, it shows "PCI Serial Port" and "PCI Simple Communications Controller" that don't have drivers.

Second when i did a windows update, it failed to install this display driver. The display seems to run fine but wondering why it didn't install and if theres any fixes for it?

My system is a Thinkpad T400, windows 7 home premium 32 bit, 3 GB RAM, ATI graphics card.

Also my hard drive is supposed to be 160 GB but it shows the capacity to be 137 GB. After all my installations its used 14 GB so I have 127 free. I've only installed drivers and a few small programs. Should'nt it still show 160 GB as capacity even with Windows 7 installed?

As for the drive, 160 advertised drive is only really 156gig, then minus some for the NTFS formatting, then minus your 14 gig of install, 137 gig is not unexpected...

As fpor drivers for the other hardware, first check the HP website but there is a 99% chance they will not have W7 drivers but check anyway. I have had good luck insytalling Vista drivers if they are available. And for a lot of things, like printers and other minor hardware (not the motherboard or storage!) I've even been able to use an XP driver here and there...

I have the same exclamation point for PCI Simple Communications Controller. So does a friend of mine. We both have Intel motherboards.

I haven't noticed any issues because of it yet.

I had the same error 4 or 5 years ago on an earlier Microsoft operating system installation and there eventually was a fix for it.

Thanks for that link. It turns out in my case that the controller is for the Intel Management Engine Interface.

If you go in device manager, click on the pci simple communications controller, go in property and then go in details. You will see a code like per example PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS...

The VEN code means vendor and the DEV code means device: in my case the vendor is 8086 and the device is 27D8.

Once you have the two codes, go to PCI Vendor and Device Lists. Enter the two codes and you should get the name of your hardware.

Then if you don't need it, just "disable" it in the device manager and it won't even bother trying to load a driver on boot any more.

hi fseal, mine doesn't show any codes on either devices. last week when i had vista i tried to install a usb pccard and just totally messed up my computer. do you think it might have anything to do with the pcmcia card slot?
