Thanks, I'll check out better this Acronis I'm using to back up my roomie's Vista drive. Haven't had to reimage it yet. Kinda holding my nose doing it all since he is stubbornly refusing to use his Win7 Upgrade that came with his new Acer since I did a clean reinstall of Vista that fixed his blue screens.
Has anyone tried the WD Acronis download on W7 yet ? W7 is not listed as a supported OS.

I have used the Seagate version DiscWizard. Same thing as far as I can tell.
Tried it on 7 to check what it does. Not much - but it's free - seems ok.
It will make an image - restore an image - copy a HD. That's about it. No scheduling, or differential, etc. - very basic. Obviously, the paid one does more.
It will be fine to copy one hard drive to another - same size or larger.
Lots of backup apps. will do that.
A lot of partition managers will do it too.
It will be quicker than making an image - then restoring the image to the other drive.
What is your opinion of WIndows 7 Backup Imaging? Isn't making an image of the HDD and then swapping HDD's to reimage the same as cloning? Because I've used it to do that several times, no prob.
You can do that.
If you don't already have an image to hand - copy function will be faster - especially if there is a lot of data.
Depends what the app. offers. - some offer all sectors ( clone) - some only used sectors - some will update bcd, etc.
Need to be careful with resizing - might lose bootability - depends where the start sectors are, and whether the app. will update bcd for you.
I was pleasantly surprised to copy a partition with Paragon PM - and boot straight into the copy or the original - it had added the bcd entries.
Yes my Paragon Part Mgr 9 did that on an XP I copied to first part. Booted with boot menu of both. Amazing.
The new Paragon HD MGr has compression of drive images. My Win7 backup image is 90g, but PHDM can do it at 72g. I still like the built in better.
I wish you would have chimed in on this other case tonight about copying vs. moving. I think OP chickened out.
I have read the helpful discussion on the forum, and would like to clone my W7 system drive to a larger drive. I have the full version of Acronis TI. It might seem like a simple question, but I would appreciate advice on the actual process i.e. can I clone to the new drive sitting in an external drive caddy, then insert that drive in place of my current system drive, or do I have to install the new drive in place of my current second hard drive i.e. actually using it as a blank internal drive, clone the system drive to it, then connect it as drive 0, and reconnect my current second drive?
