Windows 7: Using my product key on someone else's ISO disk

Using my product key on someone else's ISO disk

I am having problems on my desktop trying to download the installation files of win 7 pro 64-bit from digital river. My friend has already made an ISO disk for the same version of win7 as I am trying to download. Would it be possible to use his disk to do the installation on my desktop and then go ahead and use my product key when I get to that point in the installation process

Get him to run off another one - so you have one to keep.

Or you can make a copy of the dvd you borrow from him.

You can use the free Isorecorder:

You need to be on 7 or Vista do do it.

Download and install isorecorder. ( You don't see it - he's on your rt click menu).

Put 7 dvd in drive.

Rt click dvddrive and select Create .iso Image File. Select a location to put it.

When it has copied the . iso, rt click the .iso you just copied - put a recordable dvd in the drive - burn the .iso Image to dvd. ( do not format the dvd).

Does it only work for the upgrade?
I was going to do the upgrade, but I had a bunch of crap on my vista drive, nothing important, so I decided to do a clean install.

Should I reinstall Vista, then try using the cd to do a upgrade?

**What happened was, I made the .iso disc, restarted the computer, asks to select the drive to install on, where Vista is, I accidentley deleted Vista! So I had to format the partition and install fresh Windows 7.
Does this mean I can only upgrade? that fine by me if thats the case.

If you do an upgrade over top of 7 you can probably activate it. At least that is how it worked with Vista.

Or you could try OPTION THREE here:

Also remember that there are different types of media for different types of keys.

There is volume media, OEM media, and retail media.
