Problem installing Windows 7. Hey, I'm new here, found this forum just googling "Does steam work with windows 7" and thought maybe you can help me out.
The problem is, I can install it, but once it gets to after "Setting up registry..." I just get a black screen when it boots up with Code: Windows 7 Beta
For Testing Purposes Only
Build 7000 in the bottom corner. Is there anyway to fix this? From a picture guide I saw it appears thats when I would get a screen entitled "Setting up Video settings" but I dont, all I get is the black screen.
I've reinstalled about 4 times so far. Please someone! D: | My System Specs |

Hi Excessum! Welcome to Windows 7 Forums!
Please fill out your system specs so forum members would have more information about your rig to better find solutions for you.
Plus, if you give more detailed info on how you're doing your setup, that would really help diagnosing your problem.
Cheers! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Build 7048 x64 CPU Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ Motherboard EMX-AMD750G-PRO Memory 4 x 1GB Kingston 400MHz 6-6-6-18 (800MHz) Graphics Card ATI Radeon 3650 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 22" AOC 2216Vw Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Generic Enhanced Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech VX Nano Cooling Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM Other Info Edifier M1550 |

Ok. Basic troubleshooting steps during OS installation. Make sure that there are no USB devices attached to your computer during installs other than your mouse and keyboard. BIOS settings should be kept at it's stable preset settings.
With those things covered, fire up your setup and that should do the trick.
I'd also suggest reading up on How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7 Beta

Hi Excessum,
Please do try pooch's suggestion of using a different video card if you have a spare lying around somewhere. But, if you're motherboard does have on-board graphics, that's better, just remove your 8800 GTS during the install and just pop it in once your install pushes through.
Let us know your progress. Yeah, I dont have any other graphics card, and my motherboard isn't built in with one
I really dont understand it, I'll get the start up screen with the windows logo and "Starting Windows..."
EDIT: I've also began to think that my hard drive is bad.
I've had alot of problems with it, from crashing my PC to the point where I would reinstall windows, 9 times a day. I unplug the SATA cable and then it works forever. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7,XP CPU Intel Quad Core(TM)2 2.4 Q6600 Motherboard EVGA Memory Corsair 2x 1gig Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Monitor(s) Displays 1 Screen Resolution 1280x1024 |

Here's an idea...
If you're able to complete the installation up to the final restart but does not get you to the login screen, you could boot up in safe mode and install your proper video driver from there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Build 7048 x64 CPU Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ Motherboard EMX-AMD750G-PRO Memory 4 x 1GB Kingston 400MHz 6-6-6-18 (800MHz) Graphics Card ATI Radeon 3650 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 22" AOC 2216Vw Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Generic Enhanced Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech VX Nano Cooling Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM Other Info Edifier M1550 Problem installing Windows 7. problems?
