New Install But have Minor Issues Hello, I just finished a clean install of windows 7 and have run into 2 issues for now.
First, when i checked device manager i found 2 exclamation points. I clicked update drivers online and it didn't find anything. http://http://img94.imageshack.us/im...pciproblem.jpg
EDIT: (image doesn't seem to be working. In the "Other devices" column, it shows "PCI Serial Port" and "PCI Simple Communications Controller" that don't have drivers.
Second when i did a windows update, it failed to install this display driver. The display seems to run fine but wondering why it didn't install and if theres any fixes for it? http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/160...eintelfail.jpg
My system is a Thinkpad T400, windows 7 home premium 32 bit, 3 GB RAM, ATI graphics card.
Also my hard drive is supposed to be 160 GB but it shows the capacity to be 137 GB. After all my installations its used 14 GB so I have 127 free. I've only installed drivers and a few small programs. Should'nt it still show 160 GB as capacity even with Windows 7 installed?
thanks for the help | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Thinkpad T400 OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit CPU Intel P8400 Core2Duo Memory 3GB Graphics Card ATI Mobile Monitor(s) Displays External Dell E228WFP Screen Resolution 1280x800 Hard Drives 160GB Internet Speed 10MB |

As for the drive, 160 advertised drive is only really 156gig, then minus some for the NTFS formatting, then minus your 14 gig of install, 137 gig is not unexpected...
As fpor drivers for the other hardware, first check the HP website but there is a 99% chance they will not have Windows 7 drivers but check anyway. I have had good luck insytalling Vista drivers if they are available. And for a lot of things, like printers and other minor hardware (not the motherboard or storage!) I've even been able to use an XP driver here and there... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Scratch built OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU i7 960 Motherboard Asus P6X58D Memory 12 Gig Corsair Dominator Graphics Card Nvidia 480 Sound Card Maudio Delta 44 + breakout box Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp U2410 24in and Samsung 21 dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1200 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitech G15 + N52 game pad Mouse Logitech MX518 PSU Corasair TX850 Case Cooler Master HAF Cooling Corsair H50 Hard Drives Primary: Intel X-25M G2 160G SSD

I have the same exclamation point for PCI Simple Communications Controller. So does a friend of mine. We both have Intel motherboards.
I haven't noticed any issues because of it yet.
I had the same error 4 or 5 years ago on an earlier Microsoft operating system installation and there eventually was a fix for it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;

It's a special little lightweight buss used for some audio devices and most likely a modem.
you can do the following (found on web) to find out /exactly/ what it is. If you go in device manager, click on the pci simple communications controller, go in property and then go in details. You will see a code like per example PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS... The VEN code means vendor and the DEV code means device: in my case the vendor is 8086 and the device is 27D8. Then if you don't need it, just "disable" it in the device manager and it won't even bother trying to load a driver on boot any more.

Thanks for that link. It turns out in my case that the controller is for the Intel Management Engine Interface. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;
