Using product keys to activate other editions

Does anyone know if you can use a Windows 7 Professional product key to activate Windows 7 Home?

Short answer is NO. Use the key that came with win 7 Home.

If you convert your media to Pro and reinstall, you can activate it.

but why do you have a product key for Pro without the media?

Sorry I didn't explain my motivation better. I'm having driver issues that might be related to the extra Pro features, so I am thinking of downgrading to Home. I have a Pro product key, not a Home one.

I've been using Ultimate RTM without activating, and bought Home Premium, will I be able to just enter the key and downgrade? or will I have to reinstall?

I've read the thing about this pertaining to the RC and other earlier editions, but was wondering if it was the same for an actual copy of windows.

Your keys are valid for one version, and only that version.
