Install Win7 Ultimae Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi2550

Hi!

I have a problem installing Ultimate on my laptop. When I get to the part of the install where I choose wich hard drive or partition to install it on, the installation doesn't detect any of my hard drives.

From what I've gathered from browsing different forums my problem lies in that I have to install drivers for the disc controller in order to detect the hard drives as I belive the drives are in a RAID-setup, but I can't seem to find the right ones.

From the information in the Controlpanel in Vista (wich I'm currently running) I've gathered that I have a:

* Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
AND
* Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA storage Controllers - 2850

I've tried to load the drivers for these that I got from Fujitsu-Siemens, but I get the same problem. Could it be that these drivers are just for Vista? And in that case where do I find some for Windows 7? I've seen posts from people running Windows 7 on the same laptop so it should be possible to preform the install, but how?

Help greatly appriciated!

Did you make a partition to install Windows 7 on?

I take it you are dual booting?

If so you can follow Brinks Guide

Sorry if I was a bit unclear! No, I dont' even get that far. The installation doesn't detect any harddrives at all, therein lies my problem. I'm planning on just running Windows 7 and doing a clean install.

I suggest you download partition wizard,create the bootable disc and use it to make a new partition for you to use.

I use Fijitsu aswell and had no poblem,but maybe the laptops have hidden partitions.Partition Wizard will let you see these.

Yeah, it has a "hidden" (I can see it in the disc manager in Vista) partition, but should that really matter? I mean shouldn't the installation software still detect my drives?

It should.

Like i said ,burn the Partition Wizard Boot Disc and boot into it .

Format the drives (Vista),keeping data partition or whichever you want and then boot up using the Windows 7 disc,it should see them.

Ok, maby you're right But, if it is like you say, shouldn't my other drive (I have two identical) that's not partitioned in anyway atleast show?

Well i only use 1 hard drive so i really couldnt tell you

Maybe if you disconnected the empty hard drive it would boot into the one with vista.

Are you using advanced install?
If so does it show anything there?
And what about upgrade,is that possible?

Can't open the laptop, it's a lease and it whould void my warranty.

If you, by using advanced install mean klicking the "Drive Options (Advanced)" then no, since I don't have any drives to use the advanced options on. If you mean using the "Custom (advanced)" choice in the screen before the drive options then yes I am since I want a clean install, not an upgrade.

EDIT: Problem resolved, the JMicron driver for the RAID-controller was what was missing. Downloaded it from their homepage and loaded it during the installation and there were my discs
