Are you sure your recovery DVDs work? As an extra precaution I would image your current Vista installation to an external disk. You can use any of those free programs: ( 7 Freeware Acronis True Image & Norton Ghost Alternatives ) and some more.
Yes I'm sure they work since I've used them a couple of times already. But as I wrote in my previous post I've installed Win 7 now so my original post isn't really an issue any more.
FYI I left the recovery partition as it was.

I've now tried to update the NIC, wich is a "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller".
This, unfortunately, did nothing for me. The NIC itself whouldn't update alas it said that it had the most recent drivers. When trying to update the dirvers for the unrecogniced unit it just said, as before, that no driver where found.
You might try putting this in the Drivers Forum, someone there might have solved this issue.
