| Windows 7: Installing Win7 to 2 partition HDD (previously XP) |

Installing Win7 to 2 partition HDD (previously XP) My current Windows XP system has the HDD split into 2 partitions. I plan to move all my important data off of the C: drive to an external one temporarily and then blow away the C partition (leaving the D: partition with my other data). From there I will install Windows 7 to the blank first partition.
I know this would work with Windows XP and previous versions but will this work with Windows 7? Will Windows 7 play nicely with the previously existing D: partition? Are there any risks or issues associated with doing this? Appreciate your support. Thank you. | My System Specs |

As long as you don't format it on the way in, or point the installer at it - it will not be damaged. | My System Specs | | OS Vista x64 / 7 X64 CPU E8400 Motherboard ASRock 1333 GLAN R2.0 Memory 2x1 gb 800mhz Graphics Card 9500gt 1gb Case Coolermaster Cooling Winpower 500w Hard Drives Maxtor 160gb-2mb cache |

If you have the Full version, then no problem. Just direct the install to the C partition.
The tutorial listed will help you to make sure you don't bypass that important step, it's happened even to some experienced people.
Let us know how everything goes.
To be safe, backup your HD before starting the installation. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number 76~2.0 OS Windows 7 Ult x64 - SP1/ Windows 8 Pro x64 CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 4.6GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD3H, f18 Memory 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance CL8 1.5v Graphics Card Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X OC 1GB DDR5 Sound Card Onboard VIA VT2021 Monitor(s) Displays 22" LCD Dell Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Logitech Wave Mouse CM Sentinel PSU Corsair HX650W Case Cooler Master Storm Scout Cooling Corsair H80 2x12cm Noctua NF P12 , 2x14cm case fans Hard Drives Samsung 840Pro 128GB SSD,
