**SIW2 - You recommended the other night not to delete old Win7 partition before running startup repair. How will he know which Win7 installation to run startup repair on? In the past I have deleted the old Win7 after successfully copying it over into first partition space, then run Startup Repair. OK by you?
I made it very slighty bigger by dragging the slider to the right on the new one, so the bigger one is the new one:)

Ah,got there before me on the other post*

Need to see the drive map.

You say XP is deleted paritition on first half of Win7 drive but I don't see it.

You are right Dan it needs to be converted to Logical using PW, then marked active and copied onto XP space, run Win 7 Startup repair 3 times.

SIW2? Can you sort this w/o disk map? See no XP partition on Win7 drive.

Can you put the Drive map on as well as the listings from Disk Mgmt?
I think you got a bit mixed up.

The first partiton (the one with no letter) used to have xp on it,something went wrong i think he said in the first post. Also the Win7 has the boot.

    So would it go..

    Delete System Partition (First Partition)>Make Win7 Partition Primary>Copy onto first partiton>set as active>boot up>delete old win7 partition?
Yeah the first partition on Disk0, where XP was. Delete it, copy WIn7 there.

Except convert to primary and mark active before copying, right SIW2?

I believe we had this same exact situation with yours the other night Dan. Why don't you double check with that thread.

OK I see your drive map on OP.

CONFIRMED. Boot into Partition Wizard, delete first partition

Right click on Win7 partition, Modify>Convert to Primary

Right click Win7, copy into First partition's unallocated space.**

Boot into Win7 installer repair console, run startup repair repeatedly until it boots up

    Hi Guys,

BigOnTech said in the first post he wants one 300GB partition, might be easier this way.

    What do you Guys think?

Delete System Partition (First Partition)>Make Win7 Partition Primary>set as Active> expand the Win7 partition to take up the first partition> run Win 7 Startup repair 3 times.

I have never relied on expanding a second Win7 partition into first's space to move the MBR into place, used Copy or Move instead. Then he could later expand rightward.

But I would defer to you on this Dave if you know better.

Hope OP didn't jump the gun. SIW2 is around here somewhere.

    Just checked,
Boot the PW cd, it asks to select screen resolution. On your keyboard, make sure NUM LOCK is on. Type1, press Enter.

Rt click Vista partition - select Delete -click Apply ( at the bottom left of the screen ).

RT click 7 partition >Modify>Set as Primary, then Apply.

Rt click 7 partition again >Copy , in the scren that pops up click on the Unallocated space you made by deleting Vista. Click OK.

Leave the next screen as is, click Finish. Apply.

It will take a few minutes to copy.

Rt click the NEW 7 partition >Modify>Set as Active. Apply.

Then boot up 7 dvd - when you get to screen saying Install Now - at the bottom of that screen it says Repair My Computer - click that. Run Startup Repair 3 times.

Boot into the NEW 7 - it should be the default anyway - type msconfig in start search - click it - under the Boot tab, highlight the old 7 entry and delete.

You can delete the OLD 7 partition in Disk Management or with PW .

May as well install PW program if you didn't already.

    Have Fun.

I dont think i could actually add all to the win7 partition (there was a small amount left,39gb)when i tried this, never thought of mentioning that in the old thread.

Doesn't he need to convert to Primary from logical in order to mark it Active?

Trying to remember for sure, but I think I did it that way before.
The way I understand it, PW will copy the current partition, expand that partition to the left, then copy it back. SIW2 can tell us if this will work.

Your right "need to convert to Primary from logical in order to mark it Active".

He could move it to the left just by sliding the bar all the way over to the left after deleting the first (deleted XP) partition. Would that carry the OS over as well? Would make it a lot easier.

    What did you do exactly?

Did you delete the first partition, Modify>convert to primary the Win7, mark it active then move it into the first partition's space? Then run startup repair 3 times?

What happened exactly? Where are you now?
