Lost all search/indexing after successfull Repair Install

    Lost all search/indexing after successfull Repair Install


    Ran my 1st repair install and was amazed at the smoothness and end results...but...I see I do not have a search box now in explorer and there is no "Indexing Options" in control panel.


    Please advise as to how to get Indexing back...hopefully....easily

    Never mind...found Brinks article on indexing/windows services...everything working now...index is building...

    Give a close look under Modify to what is selected to ask yourself if everything is checked that you might need to find in a Search.

    Besides the defaults, plug in your external storage drives and select them so they remain indexed to find files with keyword, etc.

I have disabled Search Indexing under folder options in control panel but I still have a process called "SearchIndexer.exe" using a decent amount of resources - what should I do?

I take it Windows 7 doesn't have this feature and if it does can it be turned off? Just that when I turned it off in Vista I noticed a performace boost when booting up and loading up programs.
