    Installing windows 7

It seems I am immersed into Microsoft these days.

I have a friend computer here I need to format (It has a virus) and install 7. The windows DVD is missing has I can see, but there is an official Product Key for Windows 7 Pro OEM software.

What are the options? Can I do something with this OEM Product Key? Can I format and perform a fresh install? (IF the DVD is found, if one exist...)

If we have no disk what can be done?

    Thanks (;

Maybe there is another solution for this computer. It looks like it's hijacked by some kind of software, the program takes over all the functions of windows.

This is the look of it, maybe it's a well known malware and easy to remove with a free software.

In safe mode the computer looks ok

    Any Advices?

Do you have a "Certificate Of Authenticity" sticker anywhere on this PC?

Download, install, update and then run a full scan with Malwarebytes in Safe Mode with Networking.

If it can clean it up check if System files have been violated using SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

The above tests can be run in boot mode from disk if necessary following Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

Those steps lead up to if necessary rescuiing your files from unbootable WIn7 to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for which everything needed to get a perfect install is included in the blue link.

Download Windows ISO and burn to disc.
Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

Burn to disc using Windows DVD/USB tool.
Clean Reinstall Factory OEM and then activate with OEM Product key.

I didn't look at the case but the sticker is on a business card. It's an original MS sticker.

We will use a frehch version, which version should i take between these?:

    Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 U (media refresh)
    Windows 7 Professional N x64 SP1 U (media refresh)
    Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 (old)
    Windows 7 Professional x64 RTM
    Windows 7 Professional N x64 RTM
Windows 7 Professional x64 RTM (not bootable)
Windows 7 Professional N x64 RTM (not bootable)

Really i think i would not take the not bootable, otherwise i don't have a clue.

I have a product key, so i believe this is for online authentification. Maybe i will also need a CD key ? is it the case?

    Thanks again

Explanations for N, E, K were given on the same page under the title, What are E, N, K and KN editions?. Choose the one you want.

RTM is release to manufacture. First ISO released by Microsoft. Oldest one.
Media Refresh is recently released version.
If you have oem or retail key with you. Activate after installation through typing Activate Windows in Start Menu. and following on-screen instructions.

hemm maybe my question was not well formulated. Actually i don't want to download a version that will no work with my product key.

I just want to make sur that the OEM key will work with all of these revisions RTM, U,K,N, etc.

    We never know.

(Ill read the entire text, i just didn't had the time yet)

If it can be done; download and run a good quality virus scanner such as avg, avast, etc. and let it do a thorough scan. Ive gotten a screen like that before once and somehow I managed to get past it only I cant recall how I did it. Its one of those scams that wants you to pay someone or some people before your computer will be released from ransom. Unfortunately these hackers and scammers have become that much more sneaky these days and will do anything to scam people.

If you intend to reinstall then you should be following Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which explains everything you've been asking having ignored the tutorial.

You will get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent you stick with the tools, steps and methods in the tutorial
