Re-installing win 7 onto new SSD

    Hi,
Long time lurker first time poster.
My machine has been slowing down a bit on start up of late. I bought a 240gb SSD and I was looking for some advice. Would a fresh install be the best way forward. Ideally I would only like Win7 and maybe some smaller programme on the ssd. I have the original disk and license key. My setup is a 1 TB HDD with same as a back up at the minute. I suppose I am looking for the best way to proceed,do I install the ssd first and boot from the disc and install wins and then put steam etc on the HDD? Thanks for any advice.

    1) Remove the 1tb HDD.

    2) Fit new SSD.

    3) install Windows.

Never back up on the same HDD, as if the HDD goes BAD, the back up goes BAD.

Hello mate, congratz on the First post!

Ideally a fresh install would be best, as random files can build up over time.

    Is this your first SSD?

I only got mine the other week, and WOW.

    You will be amazed!

Thanks for the quick reply,I should have said I have the same type of HDD for back ups. So two already installed. If I do as you say can I install programme from the back up hdd to the one that's primary atm. Or am I completely over complicating things? I have various programs like Photoshop and such that I would rather not have to completely re install.

Yes this is my first ssd. Excited to see the improvements.

That's pretty much the same as mine. Having looked at the programs a fresh install will be no big deal, Photoshop and steam/origin are the main ones. The rest are smaller and not of any great importance. Its remembering all the passwords for Dropbox, google drive etc will be more of a problem lol.just on a side note. When all this is done is it safe to format the primary HDD in order to install my programs again.
