Nothing will open after installation

I recently had problems with my wireless driver, and had to tweak my computer a bit. I don't remember what all was done because a friend helped me, but the problem was solved and I left it alone. I have, since his operation wireless driver, been not able to open any downloaded, e.x. Minecraft and Skype. I have, however, been able to open things such as Google Chrome and my anti-malware system Malwarebytes. I hadn't had this problem before so I came here for a solution hopefully without having to buy a brand new computer. I have skype on my phone as well so I would love it if someone could give me a complete walk through on what to do! Thanks!

Since you have Dell I would first run the Dell built-in hardware diagnostics from the F12 menu. There are diagnostics suites listed there under Diagnostics and sometimes a fuller suite under Utility partition.

These steps compile how to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. This actually will take less time than most troubleshooting and result in the best possible install one can have of Win7, as opposed to the factory install which is the worst. A million users have followed the tutorial without a single complaint.

If you'd like to try to fix what you have then I'd start by System Restoring to before the changes were made which messed up your PC, then run the Wifi troubleshooter and report back its findings. These and all other steps for Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 are listed in the blue lnik.

Did the diagnostics scan

I tried the F12 diagnostics scan and nothing came up, but still nothing will open. I also want to let you know that when I first posted I forgot the detail that every time I log into my skype on my computer, I get a disk 1/0 erroe. Does that help at all?

Are you saying that Dell passed the hard drive, memory and what else?

If so then next I'd run a Disk Check.

The proceed with the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 if you're not going to do the reinstall.

Found a solution`

I appreciate all of your help gregrocker, but I have found an easier way out. I was talking to my friend and he said he has a windows disk with code that he is willing to give me since he didnt use it so I am just going to factory reset my entire computer... Thanks for all the help though!

Didn't that machine come with Windows 7 preinstalled? If so there is a sticker on it with the Product Key which you own for life to reinstall the OS as often as you want.

This is why my first suggestion was to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. If you had read it you would see the installation media and tool to burn to DVD or Flash stick is provided in the first and second steps.

I would not use any disk provided by a "friend" but instead use the latest official installation media for the licensed version on that machine which you can download from http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso and burn to disk or flash stick with the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

Be sure to delete all partitions during the booted install except the Dell Utility partition if you can still boot and run Dell Diagnostics from the F12 menu. These are worth keeping if they will run.

Then if you will stick with the steps, tools and methods provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 you will get and keep a perfect intsall for as long as you do.
