redirect a few folders after installing windows and all the drivers

hey there i was if i could redirect the following folders after installing windows and all the drivers:

    • $Recycle Bin
    • MSOCache
    • Program Files
    • Program Files (x86)
    • Program Data
    • Users

i want to install windows and the drivers in the SSD on the motherboard and redirect anything installed after that to another partition..

which includes the data for those applications.... i'd use expresscache to cache the data to the ssd but E has issues.. hope i made myself clear... thanks!

oh and i should mention that it's a 20GB SSD mounted on the motherboard...

I know that the $Recycle Bin folder cannot be moved. When a file is deleted it is moved to the $Recycle Bin folder on the same volume as the file. Such a move is very fast because only the folder membership data (and some data specific to the recycle bin) needs to be moved. The file data itself is not touched. Moving files to a $Recycle Bin folder on a different volume would require moving the file data and that would be slow for large files.

It sounds like you have an MSATA drive with SSD cache to speed performance. These caches are almost always 32gb. Are you sure yours in only 20gb? Some will be hidden until IRST is changed to AHCI in BIOS setup if you have it and the SSD is wiped with Diskpart Clean Command.

There is more about MSATA drives and how they are best handled in Install Windows on MSATA (SSD) Drive andhttps://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/307529-install-windows-system-msata-isrt.html.

While we have helped users install to the SSD for faster performance, what works best is to install only the most used programs to the SSD, trim the paging file to 2gb or less, and turn off Hibernation to save the space it's file takes which is the same size as RAM. Then move the User folders to HDD either using User Folders - Change Default Location or by linking them from the HDD to the related Win7 Library - Include a Folder making sure each one is set as default using Library - Set Save Folder.

It still is very tight and most likely you'll want to upgrade to a larger SSD soon after seeing the terrific speed boost that an SSD provides. By comparison MSATA is reported not that fast at all.

the only reason i want to install windows on the SSD is coz expresscache flushes data after caching when ssd is full... and it takes up a lot of ram like 65% when idle... and i run a lot of adobe applications... and at times i use my laptop to build LFS on virtualbox which uses a lot of RAM too...

P.S. i only have IDE and AHCI options in my BIOS....

If you unRAID the SSD as shown in the MSATA tutorials I linked before, does it show the full 32gb? It may always have some hidden.

How about if you run Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command on the SSD?

You can try Clean Install Windows 7 to see how much space it allows and if short of 32gb total unhide the Hidden and System files to see if it shows the full amount, view the SSD in Partition Wizard which may show hidden partitions.

I would install most used Programs to the SSD, limit paging file, turn off Hibernate unless you really like it as much as I do. Keep User folders on HD linked via Libraries or moved using User Folders - Change Default Location.

If you get the full 32gb which you should then its not too hard to manage. BUt you'll probably end up wanting to get an SSD.

To save space you could still disable Hibernation, paging file, and system restore.
You can easily change location of desktop, documents and other personal files by right clicking on them.
    (start menu, yourname).
You could save about 4GB of disk space by installing 32bit windows instead of 64bit. how much ram does your laptop have?

(never use the recycle bin, press ctrl-delete instead).
