Can I upgrade Windows 8.1 trial version to windows 8.1 Pro

Out of my proper state of mind, I bought a Windows 8.1 pro pack product key as I planned to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium to a latest version but unfortunately I need to have Windows 8.1 installed in my laptop before I can upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro. I am planning to install a trial version of Windows 8.1 and then upgrade it to 8.1 Pro in which I have a product key. Is that possible. Please, I need an advice, I don't know much about this upgrading things on OS.

Why do you need 8.1 installed already ?

Did you purchase an upgrade key or a retail key ?

No way would I install 8.1 over Windows 7, nooooooo way.

He means he likes windows 7 better than 8.1. I have a windows 7 machine, and a 8.1. I prefer 8.1, you should follow Barman58's links above
