Make bootable Install DVD from Ubuntu

Heya!

I recently lost my hard drive and with it my Windows installation, i managed to recover the Key and managed to download an "official" Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit DVD and i have a partition for it but I don't know how to make a Windows 7 Bootable DVD from Ubuntu.

I know how to make a USB stick to install Windows 7, but currently all i have is my laptop which is running on Ubuntu 14.04 and a blank DVD.

Any ideas?

Take it to a friend or family member who has a Windows based computer and do it there.

I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file. Just be careful during the install not to accidentally install some of the bundled junk that comes with it. Always take The Custom Install option.

You can do this on any Windows computer capable of burning a DVD.

YOU MUST HAVE A VALID KEY TO INSTALL THIS .ISO.
The one on the COA sticker on your computer will work.
If you are just using the Recovery Console you do not need a key.

You can also create a bootable USB Flash drive (4GB or larger) to install Windows 7 from.

Download and run Universal USB Installer Easy as 1 2 3
Select Windows 7 from the first drop down list, all the way to the bottom
Select the downloaded Windows 7 iso file
Select your USB flash drive
Click Create

I'm curious to see if a DVD created under Linux (Ubuntu) will boot and install Windows 7.

Yes, it should be fine. It just burns the iso file as an image.

Please don't give "I assume it will work" as an answer to a tech question. It adds no information, and may mislead people if you are wrong - which you are.

Linux systems do not include the ability to make Windows-bootable CDs & DVDs as a typical feature of their CD-burning software. A Windows install CD has a special sector with at least two files in it, and this sector is treated as a separate, normally-invisible partition, IIRC - therefore the "I Am Bootable!" signal files are not visible when you simply copy the files over.

I still don't know how to make a bootable Windows install CD from Linux, but for directions on how to make a USB version:

If you google "make bootable Windows USB from Linux", the above repository shows up in many, many links, and it was perfectly safe when I used it.
