Installation woes….. W7 can't access files
Hardware:
HP Pavilion dv3510 Entertainment Laptop
HHD 500 Gig WD (340 Gig Free)
Duo P7350 @2.00GHz
RAM: 4 Gig
64 bit OS Win 7 RC
Installing the upgrade version of Win 7 Professional over Win 7 RC Ultimate. As instructed in the thread regarding such installations, I modified the registry to show Professional rather than Ultimate and the cversion.ini file to read 7077.0 rather than 7233.0 after copying the upgrade DVD contents to my HHD of course.
I then ran the install from the copied files in the HHD. Setup runs just fine until I get to the expanding files part. After expanding files for several minutes, I get an error saying the Windows can assess all the files and will cease the install.
This effectively ruins my RC OS in odd ways, for instance I get a no access allowed if I try to use win explorer to view the folders on the HHD or if I bring up properties for the HHD it show as 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free. It’s a mixed bag of what will run and what won’t. IE will browse the internet just fine as another example.
After the first time I shrugged and thought it was something I did wrong. Reimaged the HHD with a fresh image I took two days ago (through Ghost not Windows) and the machine was okay, back to normal. Started the upgrade install again today and it did exactly the same thing.
A fresh install is best I know but I would like to do the upgrade on this machine.
Thoughts? Anyone else have the same type of issue?
