Actually not sure if sleep is the proper term. It would be like this. Connected to monitor with my asus laptop. After a while monitor would go black. The only way for it to go back to normal is wait about 1 minute and to 1 minute 30 seconds or so when the power turns off and you hear it. Then i go and press power, then it shows resumes windows and i wait a bit then it would work. The thing is each time this happens, i have to wait 2 minutes total every single time.

Last time when screen turns black, i would click the keyboard many times etc and it doesnt do anything. Basically i have to wait 1 minute 30 minute to 2 minute each time to resume windows. Of course i could just hold the power button but if i do that, then i shut down the computer then have to open it again and have to check computer for errors b/c im closing it incorrectly.

Does this make sense in what im saying?

Does the same thing happen when you use the laptop monitor? Test it to see.

If not then the external monitor is sleeping. Check all of its settings to see how to turn that off.

I've now asked you three times what the Power Plan and its settings are for Diskplay, Sleep and Hibernate timeout. I'm really getting tired of having specfic questions ignored so if it continues I cannot.

I think im confusing you here. At the moment when im downloading the updates on the asus laptop and when i did the reinstall, i dont have it connected to the monitor. Its just the laptop only.

When i mention about the external monitor goes black, that happens when my laptop is connected to it. It seems more often than not... when my computer is very active thus me doing something a lot on it, more than likely it would go to sleep the external monitor. However if i dont have it connected to monitor, this never happens.

Power options i put DO NOTHING for all of the options right now. Power plan is BALANCED.

Just like earlier all the 165 updates installed... computer restarted... showed 30 percent completed 1 out of 5... screen is now black again.

Power is still on. Im pretty sure if i wait a few hours, its going to be the same and the screen is going to stay black.

Do you suggest me just power it off again? When this happens, not once has the black screen went and finished the installation correctly. Im pretty certain now its b/c of the nvidia driver update which is why this is happening. had you not pointed it out, i would not know the exact reason as earlier this year i updated the driver and it never worked.

This was the thread it seemed many others have issues with when just updating the video card. I posted in it a while back when i tried to update my driver.

But now my bigger issue is i can't get windows update at all now. Im guesing the only way for me to fix this issue temporarily is go and do windows update again but look for an update that has my video card graphics card and not check those?

Use your laptop screen until it is finished updating and you have your Display driver installed.

Is there an exclamation mark on the Start Menu's Shutdown button? If so this means you need to ShutDown to install some updates first before Checking for Updates again. This is stated clearly in the steps.

I'm wondering why no one else has this much trouble doing the Clean Reinstall Windows 7 even after a million users have done one, yet you are now having such problems on your second one in a week.

Yes im only using the laptop and laptop only when doing these updates. I don't have it connected to a monitor.

No theres no exclamation point on start menu shutdown. Theres an exclamation point in standard vga graphics adapter, pci simple commnications controller and unknown device in DEVICE MANAGERS.

Also as you know once windows update actually updaates and restarts, then laptop would go to the best screen resolution and all those exclamation marks will be gone.

The issue here is after it installs all these 165 updates... when computer restarts itself... theres a black screen. If i do nothing for 1 hour or more... it still shows black screen. This is the same black screen like last time when i did the driver update so right now theres no way to fix this issue.

The link i posted above shows lot of ppl have issues with this. However most of those ppl are just updating the driver and have this same screen and have to resort to system restore etc so that means they never update the driver.

The thing though here is if windows update doesnt actually work for me, then my screen will have that ridicullous screen resoltuion and those other 3 things i listed will still show 3 exclammation points.. So that means the driver update is pretty much the reason why my windows update doesn't restart and work. If you see that thread, lot of ppl complain about this same issue.

Well i made mistake earlier because i forgot the right way to boot the usb hard drive.

My issue now is i know there is something wrong with the driver i have. When i did the windows update on my dell xps 8100, there was no problem. All the windows update updaated easily and restart then screen resolution and everything was fine. No yellow excllation points at any of the drivers etc.

My asus laptop Nvidia geforce driver is the reason for the problems. I even searched on the forums and lot of users who have this driver complained of the same issue with the black screen after the nvidia geforce driver update so it isnt only me. And if you look at the link i posted, u see tons of ppl have similar issue but thse ppl are just updating their driver... they arent resintalling their windows 7. If they did, they would have the same issue here.

Are you hitting the Enter key to try to wake up the black monitor? If it won't then it could be failed display driver install. Do you know if it was installing that driver?

To be sure turn off Automatic Updates in Windows Update settings, Check for Updates, choose only the display driver and install it to see if its the one causing the problem. If not proceed with other Updates in smaller groups so you can zero in on the problem Update.

If Display driver fails then install the Display driver from the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model.

If that fails then use the auto-detect feature for NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA Products to detect and download that driver for install.

Trace the Hardware Identification on the Display device to be sure of the exact Display device make and model. This is what I would do if I connected and can still do it if you want, or you can do it yourself following the tutorial.
