New HDD Pavilion p6230y no recovery disc install win 7 home failing

You don't need drivers!! Unless it's connected to a raid controller. No indication whatsoever what driver it wants? Is it asking for SATA-drivers?

Yep, no indication, I click START INSTALL and then a short pause and next a large blank window with a dialog box over it that is also blank except for the message that windows cannot find a required driver. And my only choices are to retry or browse for the driver or cancel installation. I'm wondering now if maybe because the SSD has no partition on it that if I were to use something like Gparted to create an ntfs partition maybe that would kick it past this error. I may try that when I get home tonight before I start trying to make a driver disc. (I'm skeptical about this home made driver disc working)

Is the SSD connected to a sata2 or sata3 port?
To what sata-controller is it connected?

OK, after using gParted to create an ntfs partition on the SSD the Win7 install showed me that it could not find a driver for the DVD/CD drive. It was the same screen I had previously only this time the message actually told me what driver it was looking for. That seemed weird to me so I figured I'd whip out my external DVD player from my laptop case and see if that would work. Same exact message.

So I did a little more google research and found many people claiming the ISO that I used was corrupt. Finally one forum post had a link to a slightly older ISO of Win7 home edition. So I snagged it. Several posts also talked about a Free Microsoft Utility for creating the DVD from an ISO so I snagged that also. AFter all the downloading I attempted to use the Windows Utility which promptly failed saying the ISO was invalid.

Hmm.. I then loaded up ImgBurn and pointed it to the ISO and it was perfectly happy with it. So I proceeded to use ImgBurn to create the DVD from the older ISO file.

Removed my external DVD player and popped the new DVD into the system to boot from and WhaLa! Win 7 Home installation as it should have been from the start!. After installation I was able to surf The Internet and get to HP's site to snag the "chipset" drivers. After installing them and rebooting I started downloading and installing the 166 windows updates. Life is good.

So the moral of the story? If Win7 Install says that drivers are missing for it to preform installation there is a good chance you have a bad install DVD. Either try burning it again or get a different ISO.

P.S. Just so you know, the first DVD I created from ISO using ImgBurn without any errors AND I always have ImgBurn "verify" the disc after creation which it passed. So I have to agree that the current win7 home ISO available from the MS site for download is in fact corrupt in some way that is not related to the build of the ISO but rather the files or paths that are part of the original DVD.

That's my story and my opinions. Hope they help someone else some day.

Did you get the ISO's from Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River ?

This is where I got the image from. It was a link in a MS forum and the message was from an MS staffer.



And that file is the one that did not work for me.

That should have worked for sure. Don't know why it failed. Faulty DVD, faulty DVD driver, faulty DVD drive.... could be anything. Even faulty memory.

used the same machine to create the DVDs from both ISOs. I'm tempted to download it again and try it again just to see if it repeats.
