Porting Windows Office 2000 from XP to Windows 7

I have migrated to Windows 7 from XP, all except for Office 2000, which I would like to port to 7 if that is possible. I have the original XP disk with its product key, and I can get the product key for Word 2000 while logged into XP. I haven't tried to locate the Office product key, but it's probably there somewhere. Will appreciate any words of wisdom on this problem. Thanks. PS: I bought the latest version of Office at a local chain stationery store, and it was a nightmare to install, so I strongarmed them into refunding the purchase price. What a nightmare!

Office 2000 is not supposed to run on Win 7. I have Office 2003 and it too is not supposed to work in Win 7 and Win 8 but it does. However, Microsoft no longer supports these old Office suites so they are potentially open to intrusions.

On my Win 8 system, I have the free Libre Office suite which is comparable and mostly compatible with MS Office. You may want to take a look at that. The only thing the Libre Office does not have is an e-mail program. But, you can use the free Windows Live Mail program, or get the free Thunderbird e-mail program (what I'm considering as a replacement for Outlook 2003).

You should be able to install Office 2000 on your Win 7 computer as long as you have the product key. If it won't activate, you may need to contact MS to get it activated. I have installed and run Office 2000 (and even Office '97) on Win 7 and Win 8 computers).

Which latest version of Office was a nightmare to install? Office 2013 or Office 365? I have installed Office 2013 many times on Win 7 computers without issue. I have only installed Office 365 a couple of times but had no issues. What sort of problems did you encounter?

    Porting Office to Windows 7

Thanks to strollin and fireberd for their very helpful replies. I'll make a few comments, and then mark this item as solved. I wanted the port in order to get Word, because although I have installed and use OpenOffice, its find/replace language isn't as nice as the one in Word, but it is a very good package nevertheless. I don't remember exactly what trouble I had trying to install the purchased version of Office, and I don't remember the version, so I can't answer your questions on that part. I will give the install for 2000 a try, and hope it doesn't blow me away. By the way, I use Thunderbird, and am happy with it. I used to be a Eudora user, until they bailed. Thanks again.
