Same HDD (Win 7 Partition)/New Computer

My computer died a couple weeks ago, and I have parts in the mail for a brand new computer. Almost everything's different, the motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU and PSU. I held off on purchasing a new HDD.

My current HDD is a SATA II. Old motherboard was an ASUS P5N-E SLI. I upgraded to the ASUS Rampage V Extreme with a 5960x CPU and GTX 980 GPU.

If I plug my old hard drive into my new machine, will it boot to Windows like before my computer died a couple weeks ago? I'm sure it'll probably take a moment to load drivers, if it does in fact, work. If that does work, how do I clear out the old junk? CCleaner?

Well; it kinda depends how old your hard drive is. Because if its tool old; there is a chance the motherboard being up to date might not detect your older sata II hard drive. BUT then again it just might. The worst that can happen is you can plug it into the new motherboard; and then go into the bios and see if the new bios from the new board detects it properly or not. If it isnt detected; then I would say the hardware of your older drive is most likely too old for it to be detected on the new system board. Give it a shot and see what happens. Post back if there are still issues.

Thanks. I'll get back to you next week when I've got this up and running. The parts should come in this weekend and I'm going to have a friend of mine set it up next week.

Yeah, it's probably "best", but here's the problem. I don't have a backup of my data files. Of course, the day I forget to set my computer to back up, the next day, the motherboard dies.
