New Seagate ST2000DX001 only showing in BIOS - can't clone Win 7

Hi

I have bought a 2TB Seagate SSHD to replace my old 500GB Western Digital.

The Seagate came with Acronis, but Acronis failed to see my new disk.

I went into Computer > Manage > Disk Management but it wasn't showing there either.

I went into the BIOS and both disks show in the BIOS. The BIOS is uptodate, the MB is a Gigabyte H61 S2PV

I tried to clone the disks from the CD by using Seagate Disk Wizard but it fails to see the Seagate HDD.

I tried my Paragon Restore Disk to Backup and Restore from one to the other from the CD, but Paragon can not detect the Seagate HDD.

I tried the Windows 7 Restore Disk but Diskpart can only detect my old 500GB WD HDD.

What should I try next?

Thank you for your help with this.

Just had a look at your motherboard and all your sata ports are controlled by the chipset with no add on 3rd party ports so no driver problems there, can you confirm what other sata devices you have connected or is it just the two HDDs

Its always handy if you fill in your system specs in your profile then everyone will know exactly what they are dealing with

Thanks Pauly, I have updated my profile.

Aside from the two HDDs I have a DVD burner. It's displayed in the BIOS as ATAPI iHAS12, which Google yields as a Lite-on iHAS12. It's a SATA DVD.

Its quite unusual for a drive to show in bios but not in windows may be worth checking bios settings to show that the ST is listed under the hard drive section and shows for selection as a boot device
Double check the sata and power leads to the drives and make sure they are pushed fully home as a lose sata plug can give strange problems
Could try temp unplugging the dvd burner

BIOS info:

SATA 0: ST2000DX001-1C
SATA 1: WDC WD5000AAKX
SATA 2: ATAPI iHAS12 ATAPI
SATA 3: Empty

Hot Plug: Disabled

BIOS Version: FH

OS Type: Other OS
Boot Mode Selection: Legacy
Other PCI Device ROM Priority: Legacy OpROM
Boot Mode Selection: Legacy Only

The Seagate does not show up in the Boot Order. I only have the choice to boot from the original WD 500GB drive, or from the Lite-on iHAS12 DVD driver.

Here are the details of my BIOS version (FH):

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-H61M-S2PV (rev. 2.1)

And I have attached (I hope) a screen print of Disk Management.

I appreciate your help on this.

Dom.

DomUK, sometimes weird things like this happen. You could try this, unhook your other hard drive and use a usb to install W10 on the new hard drive

Windows 10 Technical Preview - Clean Install

If that works, you could the format it while booted in W7, or just run dual boot

I would first try a different Sata Port as Pauly suggested.
If that doesn't work you could try re-setting BIOS.
Can you try the HD on another PC to see if it works there ?
