OK, Thank You for answering the questions in detail

Did I miss something Greg, I don`t recall him ever saying he`s taken the drive out of his sister`s laptop.

Is this not the same hard drive that`s been in the laptop the entire time ?

@Ianzy, I see you have 2 threads going on the same problem.

How are you communicating with us ? As you say you don`t have another PC to test the disc on.

It's very convoluted where he says in one sentence that this is Ultimate installed by his Uncle some years ago, but then a few sentences later says it's a passworded HD from his sister's laptop he can't access.

I guess it doesn't really matter since he wants to put the Win7 Home Premium which (again assuming) came with the PC so has no need to boot into Win7 since he can rescue any needed files using the method I gave him earlier.

So the questions are why the disk won't boot if its a new disk, whether he even needs the Amazon disk if it he already owns a license that came with the PC (unless he just wants to use it to reinstall with the Key on COA, or bought only a disk), if HD moved from sister's laptop is blocking boot which might be remedied by moving it back to wipe it from Win7 disk in her PC first, or if it requires any of the other steps to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode....

And no, it's not the original hdd from my laptop in the first place. And i am communicating with you using my tablet. I bought that amazon disk coz i needed both the installer and the code that comes with it for a new hdd which broke again. So i am trying to recycle my sister's hdd to my laptop while i am replacing my broken hdd.

My old hdd had the win7 home oem installed in it that came from amazon.

Well, i have discovered a solution, i decided to install w7 to my sister's laptop. Then During step 9 of the clean install procedure you linked before, it restarted during/before "completing installation" so inserted my sister's hdd back to my laptop and it continued there. Now i'm on my desktop. Now i inserted the w7 installer dvd in my laptop to check if it now reads it but it wasn't able to read it for some reason.

So the disc works fine then, but just not in whatever pc you are trying to use it in now, or that old drive, correct ?

Amazing, not once b4 post #23 do you say anything about the drive coming from a totally different pc (laptop) but yet Greg knew this prior to that post LOL

But anywho, while you wait for the new drive, (where are you getting it from? Did you order it ?) you could put the drive back in your sister`s laptop and use your Amazon W7 HP disc to install windows to see if it works 100 % (The Amazon disc)

It wasn`t resolved Greg, re read post #25 in it`s entirety

Although he said he successfully installed windows on the target pc, it still does not read the disc. Although, how could it finish the install if it could not read the disc ?

But with windows installed now and a dvd burner you can create your own working windows 7 dvd

Sorry I misread that. Yes, good advice, Brian. I'd burn another disk on the same DVD drive and then try booting it.

Do you get prompt to "Press any key to boot disk?"

Again, which OS came with the laptop? If there is a COA sticker on it with readable Win7 product key then you can use that to reinstall to save the Amazon key to use elsewhere which saves $100+.

Well, it finished installing on my laptop without the cd since the installation process copied the data from the dvd to the hdd as seen on step 9 of the clean install of the instructions you linked me. so the dvd wasn't needed anymore at that moment.

and to answer this question. "Although, how could it finish the install if it could not read the disc ?"

like i said, i installed it on my sister's laptop , and stopped at step 9 during the "installing updates" part of the installation. then i removed the hdd at that time and transferred it to my laptop so the installation can continue there.

now the hdd im using is my sister's old hdd where i had successfully did the installation.

and also, i'm just gonna place my broken hdd under WD's warranty, it broke down while i was using it and caused me to BSoD. the hdd clicks every few seconds and cannot be detected by my laptop. i bought this drive less than 60 days ago at best buy.

i am still not really sure why my laptop doesn't boot the cd that i bought from amazon, while my sister's laptop can boot it up.

i tested other cds/dvds, my pc reads it, just not the installer. lol.

originally, my laptop is w7 professional.
