The error code stops loading randomly between 0% and 93%. On those occasions when I have reached desktop, the system freezes randomly even when starting to load Windows first (after LAN drivers ). Attempting startup repairs is futile. The BIOS is at default settings except for ACHI which works fine with XP, W7 32, 8.1PRO 64 W10 64 and Mint 17.1 64. I have now refitted the W7 32 hdd and Windows has automatically reactivated, I think its time to call it a day, thanks everyone.

You quit without responding to our suggestions? What about enabling AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista after installing with it disabled as suggested by Pauly? No response. What about my question about whether Windows Updates were all installed first to get critical drivers and patches for your hardware, and the other steps in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which I was asking you to compare to the install you did.

These forums solve any problem where there is cooperation and full interactivity. It is your choice to quit before you even fully interacted with our steps, which would have kept coming until it is resolved one way or the other.

Wipe the HD of all code and create a Active Primary partition following the steps to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums

Test your hard drive using HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by a full Disk Check and RAM - Test with Memtest86+.

Where did you get the Win7 installer? Try another from Clean Reinstall Windows 7 .

It seems that all my problems were caused by an intermittent fault with one of the sata ports on the motherboard.
