Microsoft says my WIN 7 PRO ".....not running Genuine Windows ”

I have a problem with the Microsoft “This computer is not running Genuine Windows ” nag screen that started popping up about three days ago and keeps popping up. I am certain this is a “False positive” by Microsoft and need help in removing the nag screen. I assume the “ …not running Genuine Windows “ is referring to my Windows 7 PRO operating system, because the next screen offers to sell me a copy of Windows 7 PRO.

My system: I have a desktop and have been using the same hardware and Windows 7 PRO (64 bit) configuration for more than 3 years. I upgraded my system with a new motherboard and hard drive. I then installed Windows 7 Pro (64bit) using a purchased copy of Windows 7 PRO from a local computer store, I have the original disc with holographic Microsoft seal and product key. I registered the copy with no complaints from Microsoft. Since the original install I have made no hardware changes to the computer, and keep the software current with Microsoft updates. About a week ago I did replace my external cable modem with a new, higher speed modem, but that should not affect the desktop computer system. Until about three days ago, I have never received any messages from Microsoft about my software “…..not running Genuine Windows “.

My system is free from viruses, malware, etc. as verified by Malware Bytes, Avira and Webroot.

MY QUESTION: How do I get rid of the “ Not Genuine Windows “ nag screen? Is there a Microsoft contact that I can give my original product ID for verification, or can Microsoft run a remote scan of my system and verify my system is Genuine Windows 7 Pro?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hello krazykat.

Can you please check to see if you have the following update installed? KB3004394

Follow this tutorial below:
Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

When you get to Installed Updates, search in the top right search bar for KB3004394 then report back and tell me whether you have it installed or not

Reactivate with your Win7 Product Key at Computer>Properties activation link.

This should be enough but if not follow the prompts to activate by phone.

In the worst case you'd contact MS Customer Service who would validate the key and open a support case to help get it activated one way or the other. But I've only had to help do this once in over a million times the Clean Reinstall Windows 7 has been used.

Gator,

Thanks for the quick reply. Followed your instructions and found that KB3004394 was installed on 12/11/2014. Looks suspicious to me.
Whats next?

Gator,
I posted earlier that KB3004394 was installed on my system on Dec 12, 2014. Do you want me to follow the uninstall procedure you recommended and remove KB3004394?

Second question: I did some additional research and it appears a (approximate) 2 year old KB971033 might have some what the same affect on "not genuine Microsoft......". KB 971033 was installed on my system on Aug 8, 2012, Do you have any comments about removing or leaving KB971033?
Thanks,

Yes uninstall it and if you continue to have Windows Genuine errors you will have to call Microsoft and do a phone activation. See the thread link below:

Not Genuine after Dec. patch - SOLUTION from MS

As far as the other update, are you still having Windows Genuine errors? If so try the above first and then we will move on from there.

I asked if you reactivated at Computer>Properties. This is the first thing to try and resolves non-Genuine no matter what the cause in more than half of cases where you know the key is good.
