An unexpected I/O error has occurred

I’m trying to install windows 7 onto my HP 6710b laptop. But keep getting same error come up. (this also happens with 2 older hp laptops I have!) From start of boot with disc I get the following...

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

    Any ideas please.

Probably a bad burn to disk. Create a usb boot key to install from instead.

USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

If fail, redownload .iso or use real "pressed" DVD.

Alright. It still may be a solution for you for reasons other than bad burn. Give it a try if at all possible.

You were right, updated BIOS and then used USB stick to install. Now for my son's laptops.

    Many thanks torrentg

What happens when you try to restart your computer? What error or behavior is shown?

If WIn7 won't start Boot into System Recovery Options, accept any offered Repair. If Repair My Computer is not on F8 Advanced Boot Options as shown in Option One, try Last Known Good Configuration. If this fails, you'll need to use a Win7 Installation DVD or Repair CD: System Repair Disc - Create

If Win7 fails to start, boot back into Options to run System Restore to a point in time before the problem occurred.

If this fails boot back in to run Startup Repair repeatedly from the same list.

    Hi Greg,

Many thanks for your reply, I am sorry not to get back to you earlier, I was driving a truck back from Stockholm
and have just arrived back into the UK.

From the very start of turning on my laptop a message says A disk read error occurred, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

When I do this, an option comes on screen to press F2 to enter setup, screen then says please wait, then enter CURRENT Password, this I do, it then takes me to the InsydeH2O Setup Utility.

The top screen says, Information, Main, Security, Boot, Exit.

    Exit discarding changes
    Load Setup Defaults
    Discard Changes
    Save Changes.

Are you able to advise me if any or all are ok, or if any are to be changed.

When I load setup defaults, screen says load now (y)
On the General Help page it says to press F9 to load Setup Defaults but when pressed, nothing happens,

Any idea's would be gratefulyl accepted.

What happens when you tap F8 key at boot to try to enter System Recovery Options to try to run the Repairs I suggested earlier?

Do you have an Installation DVD or Repair CD or have access to any 64-bit Win7 machine to create one: System Repair Disc - Create.

If option one in System Recovery Options tutorial doesn't work then use the DVD/REpair CD option. As your BIOS Boot order is set to boot HD first, you'll need to either change that setting to boot CD/DVD drive first, or use the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen to boot DVD/Repair CD.
