Dell Optiplex 755: 32bit or 64bit

Hi everyone, I'm a new user here and have a question for you. My background is that I have a Dell Optiplex E8400, 4GB Crucial Ram, 2- SATA CDRW/DVD's, 1.5GB SATA Seagate HD, ATI HD 3650 video card that runs dual 19" monitors.

I primary use my computer for Adobe Photoshop and photography items with the occassional MCE movie.

My question is that on Dells support site they have the 64 bit Vista drivers but no support for Windows 7. I would like to run more RAM to speed up my Photoshop usage and wondering if there would be a dramatic difference between 32bit and 64bit for my usage.

Can anyone assist me on this?

I don't think the difference between 32 bit and 64-bit will be dramatic. However, if you are using all of your RAM, you might see a performance boost from upgrading from 4GB to 8GB. And in order to actually use the 8GB..you do NEED 64-bit.

On the Photoshop, there is a 64-bit Photoshop included in CS4 so if you do heavy editing that consumes much RAM, then I think you can take advantage of 64bit.

For your driver woes, most or some of the drivers should install out of the box when you install Win 7.

Here's one take on it:

Photoshop CS4 64-bit Versus 32-bit - Photo Tips @ Earthbound Light

(Basically, no difference unless you run multiple large images, and the difference probably isn't "dramatic" even then.)

I have CS4 on my Windows 7 X64 desktop, but I haven't made heavy use of it. Both the 32 and 64 bit versions are reasonably quick on my hardware. I use both, because the 64 bit version doesn't work with my scanner's TWAIN drivers.
