Uncertain about memory changes - 32bit to 64bit;
Greetings, people!
After moreless a year making this idea into a decision, I came to the conclusion I was really silly not to ever upgrade or change my basic OS stats, and thus, always suffered with this under-the-average performance, overall - which led me to see I really need more memory on my system.
My main usage of the PC comes to revolve around gaming, and I can do fairly alright with the GeForce GTS 450 and my obnoxious memory, overall, but, it's getting harder and harder to digest it the way it is.
I'm constantly having graphs lowered or broken, with a 'insufficient memory' error, generally followed by CTDs of all sorts, during most gaming sessions, or a massive surge of lag spikes that make it unbearable. I feel the PC could endure a lot, but, with this memory, it's like a former war vet who's facing a mental disorder and can't fully make use of its potential, in an allusive way.
I also noticed that, in certain aspects, a game in which a considerable memory draining is noticed, ran in my casual laptop without any feature aimed for gaming, resulted in a smoother gameplay than that of my PC, the only difference being the presence of a 4g RAM 64bit OS on the first, and this underwhelming 4g RAM 32bit OS on the latter.
My biggest doubts for now, then, are:
- Considering I wont completely revamping/changing/upgrading my whole PC any soon, will a possible formatting of my system, and the upgrade to a, let's say, 8~16G Ram 64bit system, which is what I'm looking forward to install, solve most of these problems previously mentioned?
- If so, will there be any way for me to backup my present files/folders, so to carry them more easily into the new system without the usb/external HD fest?
Thanks immensely in advance!
And be well!
- Is there anything else recommended for me so to remedy these memory cap issues?
