dual booted p/c xp/windows 7 system won't boot to windows 7
Hi
I need some help with a dual booted system. I have windows XP and Windows 7 pro 32-bit on my work computer. I came back to work after the holidays and was unable to boot into windows 7. I put in the windows install disk and tried to reinstall the software but the disk just try's to repair the disk. "fixing sectors this may take over 1 HR" this was started at 9:00 am ran all day when I returned to work the next day it was still running. Hard drive is partitioned into 2, 75gb partitions. windows xp work fine. but I need to install windows 7 to run a program called "Solidworks"
I can see the partition as drive E when booted into xp. I can access the files and folders on the partition. I want to do an install of Windows 7 pro that will not affect these file. But when I try to run the install program the repairing disk starts again. The system repair tools menu does not show up.
We I first tried to run install the program told me I needed to be in windows to run the disk.
Will removing the Windows directory from the drive (as I said above I have access through xp) allow me to install the program again. and can I do it with out losing my files.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give I'm at a loss.
