Is there nothing I can do without a Windows XP install disc?

Simple "ntldr is missing" fix with boot floppy, CD-R, or USB flash

d/l the ntldr.iso and burn to cd - or use the usb variant. Instructions are on Miles site linked above. If it works for you - you can leave a donation there if you like - helps to keep it running.

Try booting from the installer then use Custom>Advanced tools to wipe and format drive.

If you absolutely have to have XP (you won't want it for long, judging by most we are seeing) then create a second partition using same Advanced tools to Create then format then install.
