    back to install

I'm new and trying to install a 32-bit win7 Home Premium over Vista of the same. When I click Install, it asks if I want to check for updates. If I say yes, it acts like it's doing it for a second (it actually says 1 second ) then snaps back to Install. if I say no, it goes to the ULLA. But before I can checkk the box, it's back to Install. I don't have Vista Service Packs 1&2. Could that be it?

Yes, and you really should be doing a clean install.

    Are you online for sure?

Second that: clean install. Unless you can't stand the idea of reinstalling programs, back up your files, boot from the installer and wipe the HDD, format and clean install.

It willl scan your drive before formatting and see the Vista to allow upgrade.
