wipe and reinstall xp / keep windows 7

I have an XP / Win7 dual boot setup

I'd like to wipe/reinstall XP but I don't want to mess with the Windows 7 boot. Can I just use my XP CD to reinstall XP? Will the Windows 7 bootmanager stay intact?

If not, what do I do?

Thanks

Installing XP will ruin the boot to 7, yes.

What you can do is install XP, then run a startup repair.

You may need to pass the active flag back to Win7 before repairing the bootloader with Win7 startup repair.

You should be able to do this in Disk Management of your reinstalled XP (or a 3rd party partition manager): Mark Win7 partition active, then boot into the Win7 installer repair console and run Startup repair three times as there will be multiple issues to fix.

Thanks guys ... I finally got Windows 7 setup how I like it and don't want to lose it! I'll repair my Windows 7 setup after I reinstall XP.

On an almost completely different topic, how does one refer to Windows 7 in forums or searches on the net? When searching for Windows XP or Vista threads, all I had to do was type in "XP" or "Vista" and then the problem or description of the problem.

How is one supposed to search with "7"

"Windows 7" is how I do, with quotes.

good idea ... this board actually changes anything that looks like "Windows 7" into WINDOWS 7! Google, however, doesn't.
