So I was installing win 7, and call me stupid, but my power went out, forgot to plug it in. So the next time I just began from the beginning, but I noticed that the harddrive had less space than the first time. Now when looking into program I have two "windows old" files. So where are all the extra files that came due to installing twice? Are they only in the other windows old file?
Yes, anything that was present after the botched install would be in the second windows.old directory.
Alright cool. I'm confused now though. I have "Windows.old" and "Windows.old.000", so the 0000 ought to be the newer one, but the "Windows.old" seems to list all the programs I previously had, which "Windows.old.000" does not.
"Windows.old" is 40gigs+
And "Windows.old.000" is only 7,9 gigs"
So should I delete the "Windows.old.000"?
The most recent will always be windows.old; any previous windows.old directories are renamed. The difference in size may be related to the botched install attempt. I guess that not everything was moved over when the install failed.
I would review both directories before deleting any files. FYI - you can't right click and select delete. You have to use the disk cleanup option and remove the directories that way.

I know that you are ok, but you may want to reinstall or do a repair install, before you activate.

Repair install is a simple Upgrade over the current Win7 installation. It keeps everything in place but reinstalls the OS under it.
Hopefully you know how Win7 should run, but if not it should never bog or hang, be feather light and instantaneous. If not, a repair install would assure nothing was compromised with the borked install.
I've sucessfully removed the windows old folders via diskcleanup, everything is lightning fast and working perfectly. Still think I should do the repair install? If yes, how do I do it? Do I just run the installation and it gives me the option or do I boot from the disc or what?
