XP installation not allowing Advance Options

I need to have a dual-boot. My laptop has Windows 7 installed and I need to install XP. I have partitioned the drive and inserted the XP CD. On switch on I get the message "NO EMULATION system type- 00". This also occurs with another XP installation CD.

It then starts loading XP, rather than giving me the Advanced Options which would allow me to install XP to the partition created.

It then reboots and repairs Windows 7.

Any ideas how I can overcome this?

Have you read any of the guides available on how to install XP when 7/Vista is already installed? If not, there is a guide on this forum:

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

    You want method #2.

    Hi

Yes I have got through steps 1 & 2 but do not get the screen shown in Step 3 - it goes straight into install without giving me the options

What type of XP install CD do you own? If it doesn't present any options, it may be a restore disc and not an install disc.

Hi, its an original Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002. I also tried a System Recovery CD from a similar (but not the same) laptop and this gave me the same problem

Please update your system specs. The link is in my signature.

Since you're trying to install XP on a SATA drive, that might be causing the problem. When XP boots, do you see the Press F6 to install drivers screen?

Hi, I have updated some of the info that is discernable from the output.

Further research suggests that XP requires emulation to enable installation and the BIOS must support "El Torito" emulation. It maybe that mine does not!

Next I am going to try loading via a USB CD drive and or floppy disks via an USB drive.

But that will have to wait until tomorrow as it is late here. Thanks for your assistance so far

Make sure you have the most recent BIOS update installed. Then, check to see if there are any legacy settings in the BIOS.

Are you booting from the disk?

You only get Custom advanced formatting options when the installer is booted.
