Upgrading three Vista computers to Win 7

I have three computers. One is running Windows Vista Ultimate and the other 2 are running Vista Home Premium. Can I use the family pack to upgrade all three machines to Windows 7 Home Premium and then install the anytime upgrade to get the machine that was originally running Vista Ultimate up to Windows 7 Ultimate? If not, please suggest an alternate method.

    Welcome to Seven Forums, Ken.

What you are planning sounds reasonable. I cannot think of why it would not work.

You can clean install your Premium Upgrade on the Vista ultimate, either from the desktop or booting the Upgrade installer. But you then need to reinstall your programs, files and settings.

Or take a look at this:UNAWAVE - Downgrade Ultimate to Home Premium or Professional

Or get a family pack of Ultimate! LOL!

Actually in Win7, there are only 2 differences between the Pro and Ultimate versions... language packs and bitlocker.

Unless you really need a language other than English US, I'd go with Pro. If you do want bitlocker there are plenty of 3rd party sw packages out there that do drive encryption, like trucrypt!

Greg, cool trick with the downgrade! Reps for that 1!

I do recall seeing something about a 3 pack being available, I'm not sure if the windows anytime upgrade meant you could buy the ultimate and just install 7 home premium and then up to 7 ultimate or not. I would hopefully assume that windows 7 ultimate would give you that option since your paying for the more expensive OS it would have the feature on the dvd. Correct me if I am wrong on this.

PS Ken I like the note about no trees being used but electrons being inconvenienced :) It's not like an electron can actually die like a tree :) a humorous thought

Did you notice the screenshot on UNAWAVE of both x86 and x64 architectures (apparently) on the same disk. Ed Bott spoke of such a hybrid Vista disk some time ago. Does anyone know of such a critter in Windows 7?
