It is easier to run XP from within Win7 as a virtual drive, using freeware like Virtual Box, VMWare or if you have Pro or Ultimate it comes with free XP Mode.

If not then follow Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP.

Let us know how it goes because sometimes once XP steals the boot it requires Marking 7 Partition Active
to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to start Win7 again, then installing EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to add XP to a Dual Boot.

From the earlier days here when we were still discussing XP and the flash stick method I seem to recall being most used was Win2Flash.

I just googled this and one of the first solutions which came up uses Win2Flash: How to Install Windows XP from USB Flash Drive

If that doesn't work now then there are other solutions in the search at install xp with flash stick - Google Search

Try it to see. XP is very old so not so easy to install any more on modern hardware. You may need to add the SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD if it doesn't install. You may need to find another bootable installer method if Win2Flash doesn't any longer work after several attempts.

Let us know how it goes.

Maybe he could use WinNTSetup. Download from this post on Eight Forums. You run it from within your current OS (Win7 in this case) and it will apply the install.wim to the partition he wants to use for XP. (Which has to be created beforehand obviously from within Disk Management in Windows 7)

That might be easier. No need to mess around with trying to boot XP from an USB stick etc. Just use the install.wim from the ISO to install with this tool.
