Does your install DVD have SP1 included? If not, that may be the problem since Windows 7 on the hard drive will definitely have SP1.
If G is not hooked up and Windows 7 boots that is good.
Do you have all Windows updates.
The only other thing I can think of; Microsoft doesn't like your install.
Could you complete this tutorial by Brink and post the log here.

"Unhooking" a disk beyond my pay grade. But I can tell you that I'm not having a boot problem. What I can't do is install anything Microsoft.

All you have to do is unplug the power cable from that drive, but only when the PC is off and drained of power.
