Windows 7: Constant Freezing After Fresh Install

You can change Update settings at Control Panel>Windows Updates>Change Settings to Download But Let Me Decide for as long as it takes to get all of them installed, however the present problem is that they'll continue to install Important ones on their own via the Shutdown button queue. What's important is that you get them all installed including Optional so just be patient and watch the Shutdown button until no more Updates are offered. Then set it to Automatic.

You do not want to ignore Windows Updates because the OS is heavily patched without a SP2 and depends on them for proper safe functioning including for programs, drivers and security.

Alright I have another update, when I started installing the updates that said Update for Windows 7 x64 based systems that is when my PC started freezing its been working fine with everything installed on there and Security updates, its just these regular updates that started it, I think I am going to give up on 7 and try to add more memory to my laptop and then try it again, but for now I will just use Windows 8.1 as my only operating system thanks for much to all of you whop tried to help me solve this problem I really do appreciate it

In this case you can try to isolate any Update that is causing problems, by installing them in small groups and then if the problem occurs, uninstall each Update in that group in the Updates Control Panel until the problem stops so you know which Update caused it to report back here.

During install choose Ask Me Later for Updates. When you get to desktop immediately set Updates to Let Me Choose. Then Check for Updates and install in small groups to test performance after each. If problem arises uninstall each update in group til it stops. Report back.

I have another update I want to give I tried it again and as usual the same thing happened I was trying to play a game while I was waiting for my updates to download in the background since I have Windows Update to Check and Download Updates, but let me choose whther to install them or not and all of a sudden in the middle of the game my entire system locked up, so I forced a shutdown and tried to get into Windows 8.1 hoping all would be good and it wasn't Windows 8.1 all of a sudden started having issues and I couldn't boot into neither operating system and unfortunately this was all going on at 11pm and I had to call customer support for my computer manufacturer and they helped me with some troubleshooting steps and I finally got myself into the hidden partition to recover my computer back to its facotry default operating system which was Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and it went fine and now I am not having any issues with Windows 7 as I was before, I am going to install Windows 8.1 as my only operating system and get used to the features I don't like and pay $10 for one of them, because if I wouldn't have called Toshiba Customer Support I would have more then likely have ended up spending $100 just to get it fixed

If you solved the problem by doing a Win7 Factory Recovery then why not shrink C and install 8.1 in a Dual Boot which I thought was your goal? You can regain some performance lost to the bloatware using Clean Up Factory Bloatware

The solution suggested was not to bail out of Win7 after getting the bad Update but to isolate it by installing Updates in small groups then when it fouled out uninstall each Update in that group until the problem resolves. I wrote these steps out twice for you. Why did you just ignore them? This is the first problem, not following instructions.
