did quick reformat, reloaded 7 Home, probable graphic card issue

I performed a quick reformat of WD 1Tb green hard drive and reloaded W 7 Home 64 bit.
I have a home screen at least for a few seconds and then monitor cycles between between Dsub, DVId, S Video, and Composite. Then goes blank for awhile only to repeat. Monitor does not do this when connected to laptop. Can see the screen only on Dsub setting and only for a few secs.
It does not let me control the setting manually.

I managed to copy all of the drivers for that machine onto a folder on the desktop.
Is this likely a driver issue? or a sign of hardware failure?
Very little experience here, hoping for assistance.

Thanks

First try "Last Known Good Configuration" from F8 menu (Advanced Boot Options) Advanced Boot Options
If doesn't work, then try Safe Mode. Safe Mode

What does Device Manager show?

Press Window key + R
Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter or click Go

Anything with yellow is a problem.

If Safe Mode doesn't work then try another monitor until the display driver is installed.

Only install network driver if it wasn't provided during install, then Check for Updates and install all Important and Optional Updates, with reboots, until no more are offered when you check again for Updates. This provides the drivers Windows 7 wants and vital patches without which hardware and software might not work correctly.

Then check Device Manager to import any drivers still missing.

problem solved

So I tried again today using HDMI imput to 32 inch Sony TV and no scrolling in monitor.
Device manager had two faults corrected with using original drivers from Gateway.
Went to Intels site and updated drivers sequentially after getting machine online.

Everything is super fast now, like when it was new. I am a relative amateur in this but diligence paid off.
My mistake was allowing the 1Tb drive to get within 10Gb of full, and it never worked properly after that.
The machine has sat for 1.5 yrs, until I was inspired to try to get it working again.

Reformatting, the quick reformat did the trick. Thanks for the assistance!

You should get a SSD for windows and store your data on the 1 TB drive.

It was just $99 now it`s back up to $119

SSD 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 250GB | Samsung Solid State Drives

$99 at Newegg
