Windows 7: New assembly ready to be fired up for the first time

So have they backed off what Gabriel Aul tweeted awhile back that TP would get the free Upgrade to RTM if registered with a MS Account?

It's not really clear to me reading their blog's latest: Upcoming changes to Windows 10 Insider Preview builds [UPDATED 6/22]

It now seems to say that TP will be upgraded to RTM but must still have Win7/8 associated with it. I haven't had Win7 on the drive for months so I wonder how will that work?

Yep

Greg I'm not sure how deep that rabbit hole goes as far as what all has to be connected to a M$ account
Computer login or if a local account will still be permitted and only a single app like the insiders hub
I do know the insiders hub will not be included in build updates so someone would have to manually add that feature or app.

But no home premium will not be upgraded to 10 rtm by no means for myself.
I do believe he did update the blog a couple days ago.

Exhausting.

They're telling us something completely different on MVP channels.

And my friend Rob Brown from MS Community Answers called to say to be sure to tell everyone to have at least v.30 installed by July 29th to get the "free copy."

I like sticking with Window 7 support for now.

So how you like your new rig, Mike?

You'll get the RTM build and it will stay activated (as have all previous builds) but will get new builds before the updates are issued to the general public. It's not an RTM copy as such, just an insider version of the same build. I think there was a lot of misinterpretation when it came to Gabe's Tweet (perhaps it could have been worded better) and that led to a hell of a lot of confusion. Twitter probably isn't the best medium to convey messages like that given the character restriction.

Or maybe things will change. I've no idea really.

I like it okay I believe I would have to crank up the cpu to a least 4.4Ghz to get close to the big dogs from my little 3.5Ghz default

Not sure if you saw this Greg ?

But yea they keep saying something and elaborating further
Rules have been fast and loose or is it loose and fast

I'm not worried about 10 at the moment it's not on my want list there are still at least 12 months to figure out if it's worth the juice.

Day 2 and no issues so far looks as though the digital lottery was good for equipment and bios....

Thanks for all of the help everyone if anyone has any helpful monitoring utilities to add or ways to keep everything up to day please post it
Still think I'm missing asus/ eveg utilities to update drivers :/

Did download evga PrecisionX 16 for the card
I guess I need an android phone to access the bios and screw them up
Yes there's some sort of app to connect to the board and control the bios settings ?
Cheers all

Mike, there is, sort of. I did not like the Asus utilities in the X99. The ones for the Z77 I liked better. But, you are better off not using them. It is mostly for software overclocking, which you really do not want to do. If you overclock it, do it by hand in BIOS. Plus, the Asus Suite causes some people a lot of stability problems. I installed them at first, but then uninstalled them after I found what they did. Just check your Motherboard web site every so often and look for newer drivers than what you have (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X99/) With Nvidia, the GeForce Experience will tell you if there is a new driver, but it causes a lot of people problems too. It's easy every couple of months to check Nvidia for new drivers.
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. It really isn't hard and it does not take but a few minutes to check Motherboard drivers. Go by the date and you will know whether it is new or not.

Thanks Steve yea the gpu driver is the easiest driver to deal with

I briefly scrolled through the bios a lot of research that stuff I'll have to do :/
Tried just to identify some of the fans and couldn't tell one from another adjusting the speeds seems nothing changes I read I can rename them but that didn't have any obvious way either ?

I'm assuming possibly I have to make a new profile to do anything or switch to another profile ?

The only thing I was thinking of adjusting was the cpu Ghz

That is commonly referred to as Overclocking. But, don't ask me for advice on that one. I still haven't figured out these X99 boards yet. I have mine overclocked, but I have no clue if it is right. I just know it is stable and works.

Just enable core sync in the bios, then raise the core maximum turbo to whatever you want, raise all the cores to 4.2 or 4.4 Mike

That is if those cpu`s have the Turbo feature.

That way you`re not locked at a constant OC speed.

Office 2010 x64 - not ready for prime time (Ques: installing 32
My computer runs Win7 x64, so naturally I decided to install Office 2010 64 bit. While I have had no problems with the program itself thus far, MS released it too early as there are very few programs which play nice with it. This is particularly true for Outlook, which really does need to interact...

RC not ready for prime time?
With all the problems some folks are having trying to install this perhaps MS should stop allowing downloads till they fix the problem in RC-2. If this product is released to the public as is it will be a disaster. What is shocking is that the beta installed without a hitch but would not install...

6801 Ready for Prime Time?
I have been running 6801 for a while now and I'm surprised at the number of things it is able to do for me. I'm running everything I want to, including Nero 8. Also, I'm doing this off of an OCZ SSD. So far, everything runs much faster than Vista, no doubt due in large part to the SSD. ...
