How to move a boot partition to a new drive?

Hello,

I used to have a hard drive split into 2 partitions, C and D. C drive was used to store windows & system data, D drive was for everything else.

Recently I bought a new drive and used a free software called DriveImage XML to make the image of my C drive and moved it onto a partition on a new drive (G). I then changed bios setting to boot from the new drive.

The result is I am able to boot windows, however, in computer management screen I see that my C drive (old) is tagged as boot and the new drive (G) is tagged as system drive (pls see image attached).

How do I move the boot and crash dump tags to the new drive?

Any help is appreciated,
M.

There you go Bootmgr - Move to C:\ with EasyBCD

Once you boot from correct HDD remove active bit from old partition - Partition - Mark as Inactive

Thanks for reply GokAy!

I tried using EasyBCD to change the boot drive twice and even though I get the message that the boot tag was changed, after system restart there is no change for some reason.

I was out walking when I made those posts and upon close inspection, you are correctly booting from the new HDD, but it is loading Windows from the old HDD. Can you try removing the old HDD and boot like that.

Also screenshot of EasyBCD (View settings)

You are not booted into the new drive G now as signified by the Boot flag being on the old drive C showing it is the one booted.

But G is booting C as signified by the System flag, so it appears to have the boot files and is now where the Boot Manager resides.

Unplug the old drive and reboot into G which should boot as C if it was correctly installed from boot and not the old OS. If installed from the old OS then C would be locked from use and you're stuck with G when booted so I would reinstall correctly.
