Windows 7: Windows 7 SP1 OEM ISO - Microsoft Site

Hi guys,

I wanted to ask as I'm a little confused.

I managed to download an English ISO OEM from the Microsoft site with SP1 included on the disk.

Now I had some problems with my original install of windows 7 so I ran a repair install with the new download and afterwards my ram usage is much lower than it used to be (that's a good thing) but just wondered why. I have 16GB of RAM and before running repair install with the new OEM ISO I would use up to 12gb of ram when playing flight simulator and sometimes nearly 4.5gb ram just sitting idle on desktop.

Now in flight sim I've used a maximum of 6.5gb and idle on desktop I used a maximum of 4.5gb.

Doesn't worry me, just wondering why the change, but computer is showing 16GB installed. PC working fine.

Thanks,
Chris

No clue why it would ever use 12 GB, that`s way out of line.

It's much better now since I did the repair install max it has used so far in gaming is 6.5gb so much better.

The repair install must have fixed something that was chewing up memory.

Doesn't bother me just nice to not have it using so much even though I do have 16gb installed.

I guess the only time it would use a lot more would be for video encoding.

That's interesting.
Of course they can not have the same SHA1 checksum, since the content of the ei.cfg file is different between them, as, for "Channel", it says "Retail" in one and "OEM" in the other, see:

I don't quite understand what the above means, but it appears like its a full Windows 7 copy as its the same disk size as my original win 7 disk, but it includes SP1 now.

I've used it to do a repair install of windows 7 and the only thing I noticed differently after doing the repair install is the total amount of ram being used dropped significantly.

Now maxes at about 6.5gb when playing games, used to be up to 10gb when playing games.
