When the shop installed Windows 7 on your system their should be a Microsoft sticker.

What operating system did your computer originally come with?
It was built for me in March by my local shop and Windows 7 was installed by him. There is no Microsoft sticker on the computer.

Then they owe you a sticker or the dvd packaging with the sticker on it.

Ask them, where is my COA ?

But they may just tell you to get lost.

After all it`s just a shop and not Dell or HP, but technically the PC should have a COA or the packaging you got should have a COA in case you really wanted to put the sticker on the case.

But If you just want the key, then use Speccy.

Install and run speccy, click Operating System and your key will be shown where it says Serial Number.

No clue why you care about a product code, although I`m sure you`re using the wrong term.

And as Jack has stated, the shop should have put a COA sticker on the PC or it should be on the packaging with the install disc.

Right there all over your picture it says, "This is not a COA"

But your activation key may very well be in your shot in post #6, it`s a 25 digit code in groups of 5 separated by a -

As stated, a Product Code is a barcode and not really important at all.

And a PRODUCE code is definitley not important

PLU-codes
I thought that the code which activates an install of Windows is called "Product Code".

I have run Speccy and it gives me what it calls "Serial Number" which is 5 groups of alpha-numerics, each group having 5 characters. This matches the structure given in earlier posts. I am assuming that is what activates an install of Windows and which is sometimes called "activation key". I have put it in a safe place not in the computer.

Many thanks.

Thanks. Speccy has given me the key. I will ask for a COA. The shop is friendly (run my one man and a couple of employees).

I have run Speccy and got what I wanted, namely: what I now know is called the "activation key" or "serial number" and not "product code".

Thanks for all the hep folks.

Just bought a Japanese laptop and I am planning a reinstall of Windows 7 Home Premium with some UK installation discs. Will the Japanese OS product code still be valid with the UK install? I've heard conflicting arguments for and against. Just wanted a heads up. Thanks.
