Error 0x80070057 in windows 7 installation
Error 0x80070057 in windows 7 installation
Ok here is my situation.
Specs:
Mobo: Asus asus m5a97 r2.0
Graphics: AMD Sapphire 380 Nitro 4 GB
Ram: 8 gigs
HDD:
WD Blue 1TB Desktop 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive
Situation:
I recently have had problems with slowdown on my custom gaming PC. I ended up taking it all apart and cleaning it and put it back together and when I did, it would not connect to the monitor. I ended up taking it to a computer repair shop and they updated my BIOS and everything seemed to work. They noted the harddrive had failed some tests, but it was still working fine.
I got my computer back but it was still running slow. I noticed in the BIOS that the CPU was heating to 75 C while idling. I reapplied thermal paste and it cooled it down and everything seemed normal again.
I was playing Counter-Strike Global Offensive and suddenly my entire computer freezes and crashes. When
I try to boot my computer back up, it goes past the windows logo screen but freezes at the windows log in screen but without the log in boxes. It just has the blue background (not BSOD).
Thinking it was my HDD failing (it was a 1TB Seagate 7200 RPM model) I bought a Western Digital Blue 1 TB hard drive. When taking the old one out, I broke the snapper of the SATA cable so I went and bought a new SATA 3 6gb cable. I plugged my new HDD with the new cable and booted my PC with my windows 7 reinstallation disk.
It gets as far as the installing but everytime I try to format my partitions it keeps coming up with the error, "Failed to format the selected partition error 0x80070057"
I looked up how to fix it by deleting the partitions and and remaking them and trying again and it continues
with the error. I ran the command menu and tried:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
select partition X
active
This doesn't seem to work.
I ran it again and tried
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
clean all
When I try clean all it says "the request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error"
I tried using a different windows install disk, I've tried running it off AHCI and on IDE. I retested my old HDD with the new cable and it still did the same thing.
I am out of options. I could take it back to the repair guys but with my schedule I would be out of a computer for 2+ weeks and out $100+. Does ANYONE know of any other fixes for this error? Could it be a mobo error? Seriously any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
